Union Minister of State reviews central schemes in Meghalaya
Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary, reviewed central schemes in Meghalaya during his visit to Shillong on August 21. C Ymbon, Minister of Water Resources, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Officials presented the achievements and challenges of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Health & Family Welfare initiatives.
Dr. Choudhary expressed satisfaction with the progress and praised the state departments. He highlighted the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission and suggested building reservoirs to store and purify rainwater to mitigate water scarcity during dry seasons.
He emphasized the importance of providing safe drinking water through the Jal Jeevan Mission, noting its health benefits and positive impact on other sectors. He also addressed ongoing health challenges and the need for continued awareness about water and food contamination.
Dr. Choudhary discussed the importance of education, particularly female literacy, in reducing Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). He commended Meghalaya’s efforts despite challenges like transportation issues and steep terrain.
During his four-day visit, Dr. Choudhary will also review the implementation of central schemes in South West Khasi Hills and visit ongoing infrastructure projects.
