Unstoppable East Khasi Hills: Sneha Chettri, and Gavin Kharbuki clinch badminton gold in Meghalaya Games
Jowai was electrified with excitement as the 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 culminated in an unforgettable display of talent and competitive spirit during the badminton finals on January 23. The standout winners captivated the audience with their exceptional skills and determination, particularly from East Khasi Hills, which dominated the badminton event.
In the Girls’ Singles Finals, Sneha Chettri from East Khasi Hills clinched the gold medal by defeating Netania Tariang, also from East Khasi Hills, with a score of 21-10, 21-16. Chettri’s precise shots and powerful smashes left her opponent struggling to keep up, showcasing her agility and quick reflexes. Netania Tariang secured the silver medal, adding another accolade to her impressive performance.
In the Boys’ Singles Finals, Gavin Kharbuki from East Khasi Hills emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle against Pratham, also from East Khasi Hills. The match ended with scores of 21-12, 15-21, 21-13 in Kharbuki’s favor, demonstrating his resilience and strategic play. Pratham earned the silver medal, making the event a testament to the prowess of East Khasi Hills players. The bronze medals went to Melamkupar from Eastern West Khasi Hills and Orpon Nongrum from Ri Bhoi.
The Girls’ Doubles Finals saw some remarkable performances. Sneha Chettri and Netania Tariang from East Khasi Hills clinched the gold medal. The silver medal was secured by Shimtihun Lyngdoh and Doren from West Khasi Hills. The bronze medals went to Deidaphi Marpna and Wansaphi Marpna from South West Khasi Hills, as well as Nihaka Lamare and Dana Angelika from West Jaintia Hills.
In the Boys’ Doubles Finals, the team of Leminelson and Bashanbor from West Jaintia Hills clinched the gold medal, defeating Orpon Nongrum and Phrangsngi from Ri-Bhoi with scores of 21-16, 21-18. The silver medal was earned by Orpon Nongrum and Phrangsngi from Ri-Bhoi, while the bronze medals were claimed by Gaurav Dutta/ Biswajit Ghosh from West Garo Hills and Gavin Kharbuki and Karlsten Diengdoh from East Khasi Hills
The Mixed Doubles Finals featured exceptional matches. Sneha Chettri and Pratham from East Khasi Hills dominated the event, securing the gold medal. The silver medal was won by Hunbait and Rovancy Shullai from West Jaintia Hills, while the bronze medal went to Eric Copper and Ilapyniun Dkhar from West Khasi Hills and Eladalgasa Momin and Argyano Sangma from West Garo Hills.
