Use of Chinese manjha while flying kite banned in Meghalaya
In order to prevent any loss of lives or injury to any human beings or animals or birds etc, the District Magistrate Eastern West Khasi Hills District has ban the sale, purchase and use of nylon or synthetic threads and Chinese manjha for the purpose of kite flying in the entire district with immediate effect.
The prohibitory order issued under the provision of Section 144 CrPC was issued on Tuesday.
The order acknowledged that kite flying is one of the amusements commonly practiced by both young and old citizens of the District.
However kite sparing is also practiced amongst kite flyers by using nylon or synthetic threads or Chinese manjha or glass coated threads which are harmful when contacted with human beings and animals, the order observed.
The District Magistrate viewed that nylon or synthetic threads and Chinese Manjha are non-biogradable in nature and thus are harmful to the environment.
He also deemed that the safety of human beings, animals and the environment is a bounding duty of each and every responsible citizen of the district.
The order read that synthetic or nylon threads and Chinese Manjha are being sold in the local markets within the district.
Accident cases and deaths of human beings and animals have occurred in other parts of the county due to the use of nylon or synthetic threads and Chinese Manjha for kite flying, the order pointed.
