USTM once again demonstrates academic excellence, 62 students crack UGC-NET
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has once again demonstrated its academic excellence, with 62 students successfully clearing the competitive UGC and CSIR NET & JRF exams held in June this year.
This adds to a recent impressive achievement, where 386 students from USTM cleared these prestigious national-level exams, highlighting the institution’s growing reputation for preparing students to excel in such challenging assessments.
USTM’s continued success can be attributed to its comprehensive approach to academic preparation and its commitment to fostering excellence among its students.
A unique initiative that has contributed to these achievements is the university’s Pay Back Policy, which rewards students by reimbursing their entire course fees upon clearing such competitive exams. This policy serves as both an incentive and a recognition of student’s hard work, providing them with financial relief while motivating them to perform at the highest level.
Speaking on the occasion of USTM’s recent success in national-level competitive exams, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque reiterated the university’s commitment to expanding its coaching programs, emphasizing the institution’s goal of not only helping students succeed in exams but also preparing them to become leaders in their respective fields.
Hoque highlighted USTM’s efforts to offer incentives that encourage students to be more competitive and motivated. He reaffirmed the university’s principle that no brilliant student should be denied the opportunity to pursue higher education due to financial constraints, reflecting USTM’s dedication to equal access to education.
Congratulating the students, USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma emphasized that the university’s success is rooted in its holistic coaching approach, which extends beyond traditional academics. In addition to subject-specific preparation, USTM offers soft skills training, interview workshops, and motivational seminars aimed at ensuring that students are equipped with the skills necessary for their academic and professional journeys. Sharma noted that the student’s achievements are a testament to the strength of USTM’s free coaching programs and its unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence.
This comprehensive support system has been key in helping USTM students excel in highly competitive national examinations like the UGC and CSIR NET & JRF.
Dr Trishna Thakuria, Director of the University NET Forum at USTM, highlighted the success of the university’s Pay Back Policy, noting that Rs 1.3 crore has already been returned to former students as an incentive for clearing prestigious exams like NET. The policy aims to encourage students to pursue and qualify for top-level competitive exams such as NET, GATE, SLET, IAS, and others conducted by the State and Central Government. As part of this initiative, students who qualify for these exams receive a refund of their university fees, underscoring USTM’s commitment to promoting academic excellence.
Dr Thakuria further explained that the NET Forum at USTM conducts daily post-4:30 PM classes, providing specialized preparation for UGC NET exams. The forum is part of the university’s broader Outreach Mission, which offers free coaching for various competitive exams, including NET, SLET, GATE, Banking, and SSC, through its Centre for Competitive Examination. Since its inception in 2017, the NET Forum has been an integral component of this centre, playing a key role in supporting students’ exam preparation and contributing to USTM’s impressive track record of success in national-level competitive exams.
