USTM outreach: PIMC organizes free health camp at Amphanggre village
Embracing the spirit of Christmas, the PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital (PIMC) under the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) conducted a free health camp at Amphanggre Village, located in 12 Mile, Byrnihat, on Wednesday. The initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare services to the underserved community, showcasing USTM’s unwavering commitment to societal welfare.
The health camp featured a team of doctors from various specialities, supported by nurses, pharmacists, and medical social workers. Consultations were provided in Medicine, Gynaecology, ENT, and Dermatology, benefiting over 100 villagers. Free medicines were distributed to those in need. Notable medical professionals included Dr. Quaiser Jawed (Medicine), Dr. Dubori Deka (Gynaecology), Dr. Nancy Brahma (ENT) and Dr. Aslam Ali (Dermatology).
Junior residents, ward assistants, and other healthcare personnel from PIMC, along with USTM officials, further bolstered the team.
Parallel to the health camp, the USTM Public Relations Office engaged with the local community through an interactive session with S.D. Marak, Head of the Village Dorbar, and other community representatives. The discussions focused on Amphanggre’s socio-educational scenario, revealing key insights into the village’s structure and challenges.
Amphanggre Village comprises 75 households with a population of approximately 600 residents. The village manages a single school, which accommodates about 40 students from pre-nursery to Class 3. The school, however, faces significant infrastructure challenges, limiting its ability to provide quality education.
S.D. Marak voiced the community’s aspirations for enhanced support from both government and non-governmental organizations to improve the school’s facilities. Many children in the village come from underprivileged backgrounds, emphasizing the need for sustained developmental efforts.
The collaborative efforts of PIMC and USTM underline a dual focus: addressing immediate healthcare needs and fostering long-term socio-educational growth in underserved regions. By combining medical outreach with community engagement, USTM continues to champion initiatives that promote sustainable development and well-being.
