USTM VC Prof. G.D. Sharma honoured as outstanding VC in India at 14th India Education Summit
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has once again made headlines as its Vice Chancellor, Prof. G.D. Sharma, was honoured with the prestigious “Outstanding Vice Chancellor in India” award at the 14th India Education Summit 2025 in New Delhi on Wednesday. The award, conferred by the Indian Education Network, recognizes his exceptional leadership, transformative contributions, and dedication to higher education.
Prof. Sharma, a former President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), has played a crucial role in shaping USTM’s academic landscape, fostering innovation, and elevating its reputation as a centre of excellence. The Indian Education Network commended his visionary approach, stating that his work continues to inspire and impact the academic community nationwide.
As a distinguished panel speaker at the summit, Prof. Sharma addressed the topic: “Higher Education in the 21st Century Workplace: Expanding Boundaries of Education, Skill, and Employability.” The event saw participation from prominent education leaders, including Prof. T.G. Sitaram (Chairman, AICTE), Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi (Director General, IILM), Dr. Vijendra, and Dr. Vikas Jain, along with nearly 100 Vice Chancellors, Directors, industry experts, and senior officials.
In his address, Prof. Sharma highlighted USTM’s pivotal role in transformative education, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing employability and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth of Northeast India. He underscored the university’s NAAC ‘A’ grade accreditation and NIRF ranking, along with its innovative approach to knowledge creation, skill development, and research excellence.
Under his leadership, USTM has achieved remarkable milestones, including the publication of over 165 patents, numerous high-impact research papers, and the establishment of incubators and startups led by faculty and students. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the university’s standing as a premier institution in higher education.
