Village dorbar denies three woman right to avail PDS supply, NREGS, KSU demands action
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded the authorities concerned to intervene into the alleged involvement of a village dorbar to deny foodgrain supply and benefits of the MNREGS to a family, just because of a land dispute.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, KSU-Mawkyrwat Circle president Pauldeep Tongwah said that village dorbar of Domjyrti in South West Khasi Hills in connivance with the Village Employment Council (VEC) and a wholesale dealer have denied foodgrain supply and jobs under the MNREGS to three sisters of a family due to some land dispute in the village.
He informed that the Union along with the victims have also sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, I Laloo into the incident.
“We also urged the office of the C&RD Block, the Inspector of Supply and Project Director of the DRDA to also intervene into the matter and ensure that all those involved in depriving people from availing the benefits of government schemes, are punished as per law,” Tongwah said.
The KSU leader also alleged that the dorbar shnong of Domjyrti was not willing to listen on being pointed out that it was wrong on their part to take such action against the residents.
“The village authority should have taken other course of action to resolve such dispute and not by depriving residents from availing the benefits of government schemes,” he said.
One of the victims, Entinoris Nongsiej said that she along with her sister Stera Nongsiej were recently prevented from availing PDS foodgrain from the wholesale dealer in the village.
“When enquired, he (dealer) replied that he cannot give because he has been directed by the myntri and secretary of the village,” she said.
Her sister, Prostarlin Nongseij said that the village leaders have refused to make it clear whether the dorbar has decided to ostracise them. “However, they only told me that they will not issue any NOC or certificate to me,” she added.
