Violent hit areas in Meghalaya slowly limping back to normalcy, govt keeping a close watch
The state capital and Sohra area, which have been witnessing violent incidents in the last few days, are slowly limping back to normalcy with no untoward incidents reported from anywhere even as night curfew was re-imposed.
“Situation in the state is normal and close watch is being maintained,” Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai said in a statement issued here on Tuesday. He said there have been no untoward incidents reported.
The police officer however informed that additional forces of Rapid Action Force (RAF) are also expected to arrive at the city.
Curfew was re-imposed in Shillong agglomeration and its adjoining areas with effect from 9 pm on March 3 to 6 am on March 4.
The areas under curfew are whole of Municipal area, whole of Cantonment area, all areas under Mawlai and Mawpat Blocks including their census towns, areas under Mylliem Block from Umshyrpi bridge upto 7 mile Upper Shillong, Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, Nongkseh, Umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengiong and Siejiong.
The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District Matsiewdor War Nongbri has under Section 144 CrPC re-imposed curfew in entire area of Police Bazaar and Anjalee Cinema area bordering Iew Mawlong with effect from 3 pm on Tuesday and until further orders.
Earlier today, curfew was relaxed in entire area of Police Bazaar and Anjalee Cinema area bordering Iew Mawlong from 12 noon to 3 pm.
Meanwhile, the sub divisional magistrate, Sohra civil sub-division has relaxed the curfew in the areas under Sohra police station with effect from 8 am to 6 pm on March 4 but will be extended again from 6 pm until further orders.
In Ichamati curfew will also be relaxed from 8 am to 11 am on Wednesday and will be extended again from 11 am until further orders.
All areas under Shella PS, Tyllap OP and Bholaganj PCP curfew has been relaxed with effect from 8 am to 1 pm on March 4 and will be extended again from 1 pm on March 4 until further orders.
The sub divisional magistrate has further informed that special escort will be provided after the exam to the students outside Mawlong village who are appearing the SSLC Examination at Mawlong Centre.
Meanwhile, sources also informed that suspension of mobile internet has been lifted in the two districts of Jaintia Hills region while the restriction will continue in the four other districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
