VPP demands Speaker to extend duration of Assembly’s autumn session
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Tuesday demanded extension of the duration of the upcoming Assembly’s autumn session, which will commence from September 15.
In a letter to the Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma, VPP parliamentary party secretary Heavingstone Kharpran said, “Therefore, the party decided to request your good office to extend the session for a few more days.”
He said that the party in its parliamentary party meeting held on August 31, had a long and threadbare discussion on the issues concerning the State and wished to take up these issues through the motions, resolutions, and questions.
“However, we would like to express our displeasure on the decision of the BAC to hold the session for 5 working days only which is too short,” Kharpran said.
The BAC had approved the calendar for the upcoming autumn session on August 30. The BAC has decided that there will be five working days of which three days have been allotted for government business and two days for private members’ business.
