VPP files 2 FIRs against a facebook page named after its president, derogatory comments by social media users to defame the party
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Saturday filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against a facebook page and derogatory comments by social media users to defame and malign the party.
The two FIRs have been submitted by the VPP finance secretary and election agent Danny Langstieh to the East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi.
In the FIR, Langstieh said that recently a facebook account/page by the name of “Ardent Miller, +9856622858” was created by some unknown person/s with the admin name of said page as “Satar Ba Pawnam”. In the said Facebook Account/Page a statement was published which reads as “Ka Sur U Myndie Iaka Ri Ka Jaidbynriew”
It has also come to our notice that certain unknown person/s are commenting “Ha U Prah” in obituary sections of various social media platform eg Batesi TV, T7 etc.
“By such publication and posting of the aforesaid statements in the public domain, aspersions and vilification has been cast upon the President of the Voice of the People Party who is also the elected Member of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and it is noteworthy to mention that such statements and publication were made with the sole intent of defaming, maligning, insulting and spreading false, concocted and fabricated information to the public at large,” he said.
“That the said aforesaid statements and comments made in the said Facebook Account/Page and obituary sections amounts to criminal offences and has damage the reputation as well as the image of a well renounced political and public representative of the state and the Voice of the People Party as a whole and this complaint is being made seeking immediate registration of the FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and also under the provisions of the Information Technology, Act, 2000 or under any other applicable laws. I therefore pray that necessary action be taken from your end to apprehend the culprits and punish them in accordance with law,” he added.
Langstieh also sought action against certain individuals for commenting against a father in the name of Prah.
Recently a video clip or a video interview was released by a popular news channel through youtube and the title of the news video/interview was “Ka Elekshon kam dei ban long ka jingwanrah i aka jingiapher niam, ong Fr Richard”
“However, in the comment section of the aforesaid youtube channel a comment was made by one namely @jsyiemliehmaduh413 where it reads – “Ha u prah me phadar” and in another comment was made by one @FahvasFahva-me7yk where it reads –“Ha u prah noh me doh lap sngew mat”.
By the posting of the aforesaid comment in the public domain, aspersions and vilification has been cast upon the Voice of the People Party as a whole and may it be mentioned that such condemnable comments has defamed, slander, asperse and attack the good name and reputation of this well known recognized state party,” he said.
“That the said comments in the said youtube channel has damage the reputation as well as the image of this well renounced political party of the state and this complaint is being made seeking immediate registration of this First Information Report under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code, 1860 and also under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 or under any other applicable laws,” he said while urging the police to take necessary action against the culprits and punish them as per law.
