VPP MP urges Gadkari for independent audit of NH-06 construction

Shillong MP and VPP General Secretary Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon demanded for conduct of an independent quality audit of NH-6 in order that accountability can be established for the substandard execution of work and strict enforcement of construction standards be ensured to prevent such lapses in the future.
The demand was made by Dr Syngkon in a letter to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari on the 11th of March this year
According to the letter, the Shillong MP said, ” I wish to bring to your kind attention the condition of National Highway-6 (NH-6), a vital corridor connecting Meghalaya with other states, facilitating trade, commerce, and tourism in the region.”
He further said that while the project is of immense importance, its execution has been unacceptably slow and more concerning, there has been a serious compromise in construction quality.
In response to numerous complaints regarding substandard construction, Dr Syngkon informed that he entrusted one person to inspect or verify the site to check the quality work. He further said that a video inspection of the highway at Kuliang Village starkly reveals that the tar/ pavement can be removed by hand, exposing gross negligence, poor implementation of contract work and implying the use of inferior materials by the contractors.
He also said that such shoddy workmanship severely jeopardizes the durability and sustainability of the road, particularly in light of the region’s challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
The Shillong MP urged the Union Minister to intervene immediately and take stringent corrective measures to rectify these deficiencies.
