VPP seeks security for 67 sensitive & highly sensitive polling stations in JHADC polls
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Monday submitted a list of 67 sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations in 17 constituencies in the East and West Jaintia Hills districts that are going for elections to the Jaintia HIlls Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on February 21, urging the state authorities to provide adequate security to prevent any attempt of booth capturing.
In separate letters submitted to the district election officers (DEOs) of the two districts, VPP general secretary and Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon said, “…as per the inputs I received from the ground level, the polling stations along with their constituencies attached herewith are considered sensitive.”
“For a free and fair conduct of election which is vital for a well-functioning democracy. In this regard, I strongly urge you to provide adequate security arrangement to prevent any attempt to curtail the free and fair exercise of the right to vte by the electorate and to prevent any possible attempt of booth capturing or any other activity that has the potential to subvert the electoral process,” he stated.
The party has submitted a list of 21 sensitive polling stations in seven constituencies in East Jaintia Hills.
These are three – Bataw – A (male), Bataw – B (female) and Lakadong ummate in Bataw-Lakadong constituency, six – Wapung Shnong A (male), Wapung Shnong B (female), Tuber Sohshrieh, Pynthorsale, Mukhaialong A (male) Mukhaialong B (female) in Tuber Wapungshnong constituency, four – Tluh, Byndihati A, B & C, Larseng, Umtyra in Sutnga-Nongkhlieh constituency, five – Sonapyrdi and Ratacherra A & B, Waungskur, Moolamanoh, Moolamanoh in Narpuh constituency, one – Jalaphet Sumer both A&B in Sumer constituency, three – Jalaphet Sutnga (male), Jalaphet Sutnga (general), Jalaphet Sutnga (female) in Sutnga-Narwan constituency and one – Khliehriat East village in Rymbai-Khliehriat constituency.
The list of 34 sensitive polling stations in 9 constituencies in West Jaintia Hills include: five – Mukhla A (male), Mukhla B, Mukhla Mission, Mukhla Sohshrieh, Umalngshor in Mukhla Ummulong constituency, nine – Wahiajer A, Wahiajer Rc, Wahiajer B, Wahiajer C, Wahiajer Lumbahdakha, Wahiajer D in Nartiang-Wahiajer constituency, four – Byrwai A&B, Pasyih A&B, Thadmuthlong A&B, Thadmuthlong Phramer in Muthlong-Sohkymphor, one – Lathumphu A&B in Shilliang Myntang constituency, one -Mukhroh A&B in Barato Mukroh constituency, three – Moodymmai A, Moodymmai B, Moodymmai C in Moodymmai-Nongkroh constituency, one – Sabah Muswang in Nangbah-Mihmyntdu constituency, five – Mynsngat male, Mynsngat female, Mynsngat – Rakhwi, Namdong male, Namdong female in Mynsngad-Khanduli, six – Umdeinlin, Nongryngkoh, Mookaiaw, Mookaiaw B, Mookaiaw A, Mookaiaw D in Mookaiaw constituency.
Further, the list of 12 hihgly sensitive polling stations in Shangpung constituency alone include: Khliehmusut Shangpung, Shangpung Pohshnong A, B and C, Shangpung Mission (male & female), Khliehrangnah (male and female), Mynkrem, Khlookynrin, Mulieh R Mulieh S, Mynktung Khliehumbuit, Shangpung Moosyiem and Shangpung Moolibang.
