VPP slams Nongrum over viral video, alleges certain individuals are feeding information to NPP leaders
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Thursday slammed its North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum and his group following a video statement that has gone viral showing that everything is not well within the party.
In the video, which was released on Wednesday, Nongrum and his group were seen alleging some individuals within the party for creating a “system” and clarifying as to why the North Shillong is nowhere to be seen taking part in the party activities especially during the ongoing elections to the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs).
“What is this that you are trying to do? Read what we have written to the party that we want to resolve misunderstanding. Yes, the party has taken decision and we are ready to accept but the party has to understand that it has made the wrong decision.
We said that the wrong decision you made, we are ready to identify and you that we also did a mistake although we are not part of the decision-making process. We were ready to humble ourselves. Everyone is asking as to why Adelbert Nongrum is nowhere to be seen?” the spokesperson of the group led by Nongrum said in the video statement.
Strongly reacting to this, VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh termed the move by Nongrum and his group as an attempt to divide the party.
He however claimed that the VPP is totally intact as Nongrum is only one who is rebelling against the party.
“There is no division within the party as there is only one, who is against the party and that is Adelbert Nongrum,” he said.
Referring to the allotment of party ticket in Jaiaw constituency, Myrboh alleged that Nongrum has called all those who were denied ticket and said, “It seems that they are conspiring against the party.”
“The question arises whether people will trust the party, which stand united, whether they trust all members of state executive member (SEC), who are united except for only one MLA or whether people will listen to certain group that goes against the party? Whether you will support those, who are indulging in passing information to the NPP and who are feeding information internal matter of the VPP to the NPP leaders?” he asked.
Further slamming Nongrum, the VPP leader said, “Shillong MP and party general secretary Ricky AJ Syngkon had issued a letter to all four MLAs asking for proper implementation of their schemes. We lauded the three MLAs for respecting the letter of SEC by ensuring transparency in implementation of the MLA schemes but people are questioning why one MLA is so different from the others in the implementation of the scheme (by not willing to be transparent in the implementation of the scheme).”
“This is not the first time (that he has created a drama). When we decided to field Ricky AJ Syngkon, the same person has questioned the decision of the party to field Syngkon but that time we do not want to disclose internal matters of the party,” he stated.
According to him, Nongrum had also expressed to the party that he wanted to contest the MDC election although he never applied for the ticket.
He said there is no division in the party but there is an attempt to attack the party from within.
Asked, Myrboh said that the party has no intention to expel anyone but is trying to come to an understanding with them.
“Till now we have not taken any decision to expel anyone because we want to unite the party,” he added.
Further, Myrboh also alleged that Nongrum had brought many Bills in the state Assembly which are totally against the party’s principles and ideology.
Similarly, he said Nongrum had submitted his views and suggestions on the State Reservation Policy, which are in contrary to those of the party.
