VPP urges people to elect an alternative Govt without any MDA constituents
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has asked the people of the state to vote out all the political parties who are part and parcel of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in 2023.
In a statement issued on Friday, VPP leader Dr. Batskhem Myrboh said that the MDA Government which comprises the NPP, UDP, HSPDP, BJP, PDF and other independent MLAs has faced numerous serious allegations of corruption in different departments and sectors.
Such allegations need to be probed by independent bodies such as the CBI.
“We, therefore, appeal to the people to exercise their democratic right judiciously to elect an alternative government without the presence of any of the present MDA constituents. It is only then that accountability and responsibility can be fixed and corruption cases can be brought to the logical conclusion,” he said.
According to him, the people should not forget that the real power lies in their hands and what they sow in 2023 will have repercussions for the next five years and even after.
Dr Myrboh said it is imperative that a new government should be formed post 2023 election without the presence of any of the above parties that are part of this government.
“It is only when an alternative government is formed that serious investigation can happen, corruption cases be exposed and the corrupt are punished. In the absence of such a change, all the cries against corruption will not have any tangible result as the culprit shall remain roaming without being punished,” he said while asserting “It is logical only that any probe by the existing government will fail to bring out the truth and will be simply an eyewash exercise without really revealing the necessary truth.”
“Who will punish oneself? This fact has already been experienced by the public under this government where its various commissions/committees probing its own alleged irregularities/corruption/excesses were simply a waste of public money,” he further stated.
