Wailadmiki Shylla unveils vital facilities for Jowai Municipal Board waste management
Jowai legislator Wailadmiki Shylla unveiled a series of vital facilities at the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) office in Khimusniang, Jowai, on Thursday. These facilities included the Jowai Municipal Board Water Tanker, Conservancy Trucks, Organic Waste Converters (Composting Machines) and a Baling Machine.
In his address as the chief guest, Shylla expressed his gratitude to the dedicated officers who worked tirelessly to achieve these milestones, particularly in light of the long-standing criticism of Jowai’s waste management system. He also commended the JMB for receiving the Award of Recognition and acknowledged two staff members honoured by the State Government for their participation in this year’s Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
Wailadmiki, who is also the chairman of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, reflected on the challenges faced, including past criticism, and recalled that former CM Mukul Sangma had addressed the issue of garbage in Jowai, which could have affected Shylla’s recent MLA election. He highlighted the progress made since then, emphasizing the importance of finding solutions to these problems.
Shylla expressed his gratitude to Seinraij Jowai and Sabhamuswang for allowing the Jowai Municipal Board to establish recovery centres and encouraged others to follow suit, citing the success of Umpling as a source of local employment.
He also outlined the projects sanctioned for different localities in Jowai town under the Fifteenth Finance Commission. Notably, the government allocated 19 crores for the construction of 11 in situ drains to enhance the filtration of water from the Myntdu River, which serves as Jowai town’s drinking water source.
Shylla urged hawkers and residents to take advantage of the various urban schemes offered through the JMB. He emphasized the need for increased applications for toilet construction under Swachh Bharat.
The event was attended by Lasooki Lakiang, Chairman of JMB, Chief Executive Officer, JMB DV Lyngdoh MCS, Dolloi Jowai Puramon Kynjing, among others.
