Warjri at Meghalaya Games: FOP assets handed to West Jaintia Hills Shooting Association
Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri continued providing morale support to athletes and organizers as he visited Jowai on January 23 during the ongoing Meghalaya Games.
He attended a short program held at Chiliang Raij Hall, Jowai, and handed over FOP assets to the Shooting Association of the West Jaintia Hills Unit to strengthen the sport’s infrastructure in the district. Present were ADC Ms. HML Kynta, Additional SP Ishan Gupta, IPS, and Working President MSOA John F Kharshiing, Working President of the West Jaintia District Sports Association, Jowai.
Shakliar Warjri stated that the state government is committed to promoting sports and youth empowerment and continues to focus on developing sports infrastructure and talent across the state. He emphasized that the government is dedicated to spreading and developing sports activities in all 12 districts of the state to ensure inclusive growth and opportunities for all.
“During the 5th Meghalaya Games, the government made a pivotal decision to host games across all districts. This initiative not only promotes sports but also contributes to the holistic development of schools, colleges, and community halls. By doing so, the government aims to ensure that sports and overall development reach every corner of our state,” said Warjri.
He also graced the prize distribution ceremony of the weightlifting event at Tpep Pale Iungwalieh Dorbar Hall, Jowai.
Meanwhile, in weightlifting Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills are leading the medal tally.
In the women’s 49 kg category, Isalarica Lapang from SWKH won gold with 110 points. Fourki Suchen and Alicia Dora Syiem took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the women’s 55 kg category, Larityngkai Lawriniang (EWKH) won gold, Balawanshwa Kharkongor (RB) silver, and Wanhunlang Thabah (RB) bronze. In the women’s 59 kg category, Bavaria Shullai won gold with 92 points, while Ibanrihun Maring took silver with 88 points.
In the women’s 71 kg category, Ri-Bhoi claimed gold and silver, with Aiei Banity Lyngdoh and Ibalaiohkhamtilut Namsaw, respectively. Deiphibanri Lyngdoh from EKH won bronze
