Welcome arch and musical stage to welcome visitors at Shillong, the ‘music capital’
The state government is making plans to make Shillong a music capital with plans to install a welcome arch and a stage which will serve as a platform for artistes and buskers.
Informing this, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday said, “We will be installing a welcome arch and a stage which will provide space for musicians and buskers to perform and entertain visitors and the public. There will be that immediate sense that one has arrived at the music capital. It should take another couple of months or so but will try to complete everything before Christmas of this year.”
He said that this concept have been shared with colleagues in the government and more especially in the departments of Tourism and Arts & Culture.
Banking on the popular idea of Shillong being a rock capital, the Minister hoped that visitors to Shillong will be warmly welcome by music.
“The plan is that visitors to Shillong should, immediately upon arrival see a prominent signage that welcomes them to the music capital which is Shillong,” he said.
