West Garo Hills police bust bike theft racket, kingpin arrested
In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft, West Garo Hills District Police have successfully recovered 17 stolen two-wheelers and arrested four individuals involved in an organized bike theft racket, including the prime accused.
Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma said the crackdown providg operation targeting bike lifters, led by CI (Sadar), West Garo Hills, Tura, and Officer-in-Charge, Tura Police Station, in close coordination with counterparts in Assam. The key accused, Jamesmond K. Marak alias Simon, 32, son of Watson Marak, resident of Balsrigittim, Raja Apal, under Bajengdoba Police Station, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya, was arrested along with three others: Tengwal R. Marak, 28, son of Rodrikson Momin, resident of Jamge (A), Songsak, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya. Jangkal B. Marak, 31, son of Keplin Momin, resident of Rongchek Apal, Songsak, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya. Judistil T. Sangma, 33, son of Late Ramjeng Marak, resident of Dosikgittim, Mangsang, under Rongjeng Police Station, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya.
The arrested individuals have a history of similar offenses and had previously been arrested in multiple bike theft cases. However, after securing bail, they resumed their illegal activities. Investigations have revealed that the stolen bikes were being transported and sold through a well-organized network.

West Garo Hills District Police are actively working to dismantle this network and recover more stolen vehicles from various parts of the district and beyond. A case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS 2023, and further investigations are underway.
Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to vehicle theft to their nearest police station or contact the Police Control Room, Tura, at 8837423053 or 9089199064. He also advised two-wheeler owners to park their vehicles in secure locations, install vehicle trackers or GPS systems, and use steering or wheel locks to enhance security and deter theft.
