West Jaintia Hills celebrates National Voters Day, DC urges active participation in Lok Sabha Election
On the occasion of the 14th National Voters Day the office of the Deputy Commissioner Election Branch, West Jaintia Hills District presented Voters ID Card to the newly enrolled voters in a programme held in the Election Branch compound, Jowai.
Altogether 49 newly enrolled voters of the four Assembly constituencies 1- Nartiang, 2- Jowai, 3- Raliang and 4- Mowkaiaw were facilitated today in different polling stations of the district.
The day is celebrated with the theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for Sure”
Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner B Blah, MCS, ADC FB Basan, ADC HML Kynta, ADC DV Lyngdoh, Assistant Commissioner S Phanbuh, Assistant Commissioner WK Kharbuli attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner also the District Election Officer urged all eligible voters both young and old to actively participate and franchise their right during this upcoming Lok Sabha Election. He stresses on the theme, “Nothing like voting and I vote for sure”
DC called for cooperation from the village and locality headmen during the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, emphasising the need of collective responsibility to maintain free and fair election.
He also urged citizens to avoid spreading fake news, encouraging them to check and confirm the sources are accurate and seek information from the District Administration if such a situation arises to prevent misunderstanding during the election period.
He also thanked the district icon Chi Iung for creating voter awareness and reaching out to the masses through their channel.
B Blah in her introductory speech highlighted the importance of the day informing that the main objective of the celebration is to facilitate the new voters and also to create electoral awareness amongst the citizens and encourage them to participate in the electoral process. She also informed that the NVD was also celebrated at all 230-polling stations of four Assembly Constituency and Voter ID cards were distributed to newly enrolled voters who have enrolled themselves during the special summary revision.
She further informed that besides an awareness programme organised in all polling stations, the Supervisors and BLO supervisors carried out an awareness programme through mobile demonstration Van in all the polling stations in the district and major markets areas.
She encouraged all eligible voters to franchise their right and to take part in upcoming Lok Sabha Election, informing that the total number of voters in the four assembly constituencies is 1, 66,728 voters in the four assembly constituencies to come forward to exercise their right to choose their representative.
Earlier, the office of the Deputy Commissioner Election Branch had conducted a drawing competition for PwD voters on the theme ‘Election and Voting’ in the conference room DC office, Jowai. A Cycle rally was also organized in collaboration with the office of the District Sports Officer. The Rally was flagged off by SP C Syrti, MPS from Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Ladthadlaboh. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of the Drawing and certificate of participation of Cycle rally. The office of the Deputy Commissioner election Branch also felicitated the District ICON Chi Iung and PwD Icon Shri. A. Lyngdoh. The District election Officer facilitated the BLOs.












The programme was chaired by WK Kharbuli, Assistant Commissioner, Jowai and the vote of thanks was proposed by FB Basan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai.
