West Jaintia Hills District admin directed all street vendors to vacate public footpath
The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday has issued an order directing all street vendors to vacate the public footpath and main road with effect from January 6.
The order has been issued in view of the regular problems faced by the District Administration regarding removing of hawkers from occupying every nook and corner in Jowai town including public footpath, which has caused major inconvenience to the general public and pedestrians and disrupt the free flow of traffic.
The order said that pedestrians are deprived from using the foot path due to the illegal encroachment of hawkers and pedestrian tends to use the main road for walking which in turn has led to frequent accidents due to heavy congestion and in view of the increase in Covid cases in the country due to the Omicron variant.
