West Jaintia Hills District launches 15-Day Skill Development Program for pottery artisans
The District Commerce & Industries of West Jaintia Hills District inaugurated a 15-day Skill Development Programme (SDP) for pottery artisans on January 15 at Larnai Village.
Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya, IAS, of West Jaintia Hills District, presided as the Chief Guest during the inauguration of the 15-day Skill Development Programme for pottery artisans. ML Wanshnong, Joint Director of the Commerce and Industries Department, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
This training initiative is a part of the ongoing project titled “Scheme on Studies for Promotion & Strengthening of Black Pottery at Tyrshang and Larnai village, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, Meghalaya.” The program is scheduled to run from January 15-28, benefiting 76 artisans from Larnai village.
The Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization (MGIRI), Wardha, under the Ministry of MSME, GOI, is leading this study. Dr. K. Venkata Rao, Deputy Director of Rural Craft and Engineering, is heading the initiative. The Scheme received sanction from the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya.
The program saw the presence of Dr. K Venkata Rao, Deputy Director MGIRI, Wardha, B Warjri, General Manager DCIC, WJHD, Jowai, SE Kharpran, Functional Manager DCIC, WJHD, Jowai, S Pale, IPO, DCIC, WJHD, Jowai, E Shylla, Field Coordinator, the Headman of Larnai Village, members of the dorbar shnong, and the artisans.
