    The Office of the Senior Dairy Officer, West Jaintia Hills, celebrated National Milk Day at the Jowai Dairy Plant Compound, Mooralong, Jowai. Additional Deputy Commissioner B Blah, MCS, was the Chief Guest.

    Speaking on the occasion, Blah emphasized the significance and essential role of consuming milk, underlining its nutritional importance and benefits. She apprised the farmers, stressing the importance of increasing cow rearing to ensure a sustainable supply of milk for the community.

    M Shylla, Senior Dairy Officer, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai, in her introduction mentioned that the day is observed every year on November 26 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Varghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution. She emphasized that the celebration aims to spread awareness about the crucial importance of milk in our lives.

    UB Dkhar, Dairy Assistant Director, (HQ) Directorate Dairy Development, mentioned that the day is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of milk consumption.

    To enhance awareness among students regarding the importance of milk consumption, the office had conducted quiz, essay, and drawing competitions on nutritional benefits. The winners were awarded mementos and certificates.

    T Tynkan, Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety (DO), West Jaintia Hills District and Dr. I. Kjam, DVO, West Jaintia Hills, also spoke on the occasion.
