Will file case against CAA protestors who were responsible for death of 5 people during anti-CAA protest: Assam CM
“A lot of rumours have been spread regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, in Assam. Even five people were pushed to death due to confusion over the legislation,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here on Thursday.
“I will file a case in court against the agitators responsible for the death of these five people. Even though four days have passed since the law came into force officially, no one from Assam has applied for citizenship till date,” Sarma told reporters here.
“There were speculations among the people that lakhs of people would enter Assam if the legislation is implemented. However, the agitators are not willing to understand the main point. This time every person who spread all the rumours has to answer,” Sarma also said.
“It is not acceptable to say that you do not understand, you have to understand. Assam is mainly governed by emotions. As a result, no one understood the truth about this law. The Act has a cut-off year of January 1, 2014,” he said.
“If a person whose name is not in the NRC (National Register of Citizens) applies under the law, he will be asked why he did not apply in the NRC if he came to Assam before 2014. If he came in 2021 and says that he came before 2014, then there is no evidence,” he also said.
“NRC has already been done in Assam. It was possible to apply for NRC because it came before 2014,” he further said.
Sarma said the number of people applying under the CAA Act in Assam will be very low because of this. The current portal is open and how many people have applied from Assam every day can be seen regularly. In other words, this law has no significance in Assam,” the chief minister said.
The chief minister said the citizenship will be given by the central government. The state government has no authority in this regard. “But according to the law proof of entry into India before 2014 must be provided. If a person has not applied for NRC in Assam then that person did not come to the state before 2014. The emotion that was created for so long regarding this law has been of no avail,” the chief minister also said.
“We should proceed through conscience and not emotion. After the next 45 days, many people will have to answer for the martyrdom of five people protesting against the CAA. If you count the days before the election, you can see how many people have applied from Assam. Anyone can check it by visiting the portal,” he further said.
“17 people got citizenship in Gujarat yesterday. This time in Assam, how many people have applied, and how many people’s cases have been settled, all the information will be on the portal. The answer must be given as to where the number of 20 targets came from,” Sarma said.
The chief minister said that the population of one crore Hindus in Bangladesh has decreased. But no one said that it happened as a result of conversion. These people will never come to Assam. Those who have come have applied for NRC,” Sarma said.
“A person who has not applied for NRC cannot come under the CAA. The entire system is locked. Not a single person can join there,” he also said.
“The main problem is that no one wants to have a rational conversation here. We will not understand the thing. However, if you don’t understand the issue, how can you move? Another reflection can be seen regarding this law in Assam. Finally, camps should be organized to liberate individuals from biometrics. Four days have passed since the law came into force and not a single application has been filed from Assam. But what kind of rumours have been spread while doing the movement,” the chief minister questioned.
“It is said that one crore Hindus have decreased from Bangladesh, but on the contrary, it is not said that the Muslim population has increased by two crores. They are speaking half the truth. They said Hindus have decreased but Muslims have not increased. Leftist ideology is running dangerously in Assam. Giving this half-truth information is the biggest problem. Hindus converted to Islam. This law was made to save Hindus from that,” Sarma argued.
He claimed that the state’s eco-system prevents the entry of foreign nationals into Assam. This ecosystem in its current state is extremely robust. Assam is used as a corridor.
“Bangladeshi Muslims enter Assam but leave the state. If he goes to Kolkata, there is no tribunal, there is no D voter. Naturally, Bihar also has no tribunal and no D voters. People will prefer to go to Kolkata rather than stay in Assam. As a labourer in Assam, he gets Rs 100 and in Gujarat, he will get Rs 300. Youths from Assam are also working in Gujarat and Karnataka. Why should Bangladeshi citizens come to Assam instead of Gujarat, Karnataka? There was a time during the Sadullah government when Assam had land, and job opportunities. not now,” he added.
