Will win 13 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, but not possible to win Dhubri: claims Himanta
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday claimed that the BJP-led alliance will win 13 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Of 14 seats, BJP is contesting from 11 seats, leaving two seats to its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and one seat to the United People’s Party Liberation (UPPL).
“Winning the Dhubri seat is not possible. This election is being held to elect Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister once again,” Sarma said addressing a press conference here.
“There is nobody who can defeat PM Modi in the election from Varanasi. If a Bollywood star comes and contests in Varanasi, he will also be defeated. Modi will get the third innings as the Prime Minister in this election,” Sarma said.
“If the people of Jorhat and Sivasagar will not vote Modi-led BJP, to whom they will vote,” he questioned.
“This year’s election is the easiest for the BJP. This election is not being held between me and Bimal Bora but this election is being held to elect Prime Minister Modi for the third term. This election is to march Assam and the Northeast for development. There is no contest here,” he said.
After watching PM Modi’s rally in Jorhat, he said that no other question can arise in this regard.
“BJP is going to get walked over in Dibrugarh. Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal will win by a margin of three and a half lakh votes. BJP’s tally of wins will increase to 13,” he claimed.
“After Congress committed suicide in Karimganj and Nagaon constituencies, the chances of the BJP alliance winning additional seats have increased,” he added.
However, he apprehended that it would not be possible for the BJP to win Dhubri’s seat.
“If we want to win Dhubri, we will have to change our entire ideology. Everything I have been talking about in politics for so long should be changed. However, the results of Dhubri will be good in the assembly elections. Four assembly constituencies can be won from there. But it is not possible to win a Lok Sabha seat,” the chief minister said.
He hoped that the AGP candidate was likely to get some votes in Dhubri. “Because the party will get the votes of some people which BJP doesn’t get. I will not even go to Dhubri for the poll campaign. But we are targeting four assembly seats from Dhubri district in the assembly elections. We will monitor the voting pattern of those four constituencies so that our alliance can show a good performance,” he added.
