WJH District joins to celebrate India’s 75th Independence
The celebration for India’s 75th Freedom Anniversary 2022 has begun with a programme of launching “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” by the Prime Minister at Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad. This is a series of events that are initiated and organised by the Government of India to last for 75 weeks from 12 March 2021 until 15th August 2022. Prime Minister will also launch various other cultural and digital initiatives for the India@75 celebrations.
On Friday, all states and union territories government are concurrently celebrating the programs all over India. Likewise, the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai also organised a program to commemorate the launch of the Mahotsav.
The program began with the placing of wreaths under the memorial of Jaintia Hills’ freedom fighter Woh Kiang Nangbah at Kiang Nangbah Memorial Park, Syntu Ksiar, Jowai. The program commenced with a welcome speech by the Chairman and Deputy Commissioner, Garod LSN Dykes (IAS).
Members presented in the event were Guest of Honour- Hameshaniah Suiam a recipient of Meghalaya Kiang Nangbah Awards for Sports 2020-2021, Chief Guest- Dolloi Elaka Jowai, Additional Deputy Commissioner- P. Kr. Boro, a member of Kiang Nangbah Iasiat Khnam Memorial Society and other leaders and government officers of West Jaintia Hills District.
The Chief guest appraised the award-winning Hameshaniah Suiam for his achievements and for bringing honour to the state. He also said, “the grounds we are sitting today is the same grounds where the freedom fighter came together to stand side by side with each other and with God to fight for the freedom of our people.”
“As a country, we must be united and show that the 75 years after the Independence are the years that we have been progressing to the future for the sake of our freedom fighters and we need to spend 75 weeks to honour their name“, he added.
The other speakers spoke passionately about the freedom fighters of Meghalaya- U Kiang Nangbah, U Tirot Sing Syiem and Pa Togan Sangma, and how it is worth honouring their name for India’s 75th Freedom Anniversary. Traditional dance and singing were performed by the Chlem Sur Tynre Shangpung followed by the concluding speech by the Additional Deputy Commissioner.
