WJSU urges road safety action on Amlari Nongtalang Tamabil roads

The War Jaintia Students’ Union (WJSU) urged the War Jaintia Trucks Owners and Drivers Association to address growing road safety concerns along the Amlari-Nongtalang-Tamabil Roads.

In a letter to the president War Jaintia Trucks Owners and Drivers Association, the WJSU stated, ‘We’ve received numerous complaints, especially from the public and commuters travelling these roads. The reported issues, involving some truck drivers, have created an unsafe environment, prompting the need for quick action.’

The union emphasised the need for swift action and highlighted concerns such as reckless overtaking causing traffic congestion, negligence after unloading, inappropriate parking practices, and double parking causing disruptions during morning hours.

Issues identified by WJSU:

Traffic congestion: Reckless overtaking by some truck drivers causes significant traffic congestion, inconveniencing commuters and posing potential threats.

Negligence after unloading: Truck drivers coming from Bangladesh often neglect other vehicles after unloading, leading to one-sided parking and potential hazards.

Lack of common sense in parking: Some truck drivers inappropriately parked their vehicles in curved, causing disruptions for people travelling on the roads.

Double Parking in Quarry Portion: Double parking by some drivers in the first Quarry portion of the roads creates traffic problems, particularly during morning hours.

The WJSU stressed the urgency of intervention to curb instances of reckless driving, including driving under the influence. The appeal underscores the importance of creating a safe environment for all road users, aiming to alleviate inconveniences and prevent potential threats to life and property from reported truck driver activities.
