Woman among three held for drug trafficking in EKH
Three drug peddlers including a woman were arrested along with suspected heroin at Mawryngkneng village in East Khasi Hills District on Tuesday morning.
District police chief Claudia A Lyngwa said the woman is identified as Moitre Barua (44) while two others – Mrinal Kanti Das (31) and Rakesh Barua (26).
While Moitre and Rakesh are residents of 52 Bishop Cotton Road, Shillong and 54/4 Bishop Cotton Road, Shillong respectively, Das is from KL Complex, Shillong.
She said the trios were arrested from Mawryngkneng junction by the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) team along with officers and staff of Mawryngkneng police station after tracking the movements of such petty drug peddlers.
One transparent plastic packet containing suspected yellowish orange powder weighing 11.63 grams and one empty pink soap box with transparent plastic packet inside were recovered and seized under due procedures of NDPS Act.
The SP said a case was accordingly registered in the Mawryngkneng police station under the relevant sections of NDPS Act.
According to her, the arrest was part of the continuous efforts to eradicate the drug menace in the city by concentrating in targeting the drug sale purchase network.
