Woman taken on a bamboo stretcher to PHC, gives birth to twins in East Garo Hills
A woman has given birth to twins in East Garo Hills district after villagers carried her on a bamboo stretcher to a nearby primary health centre.
The incident took place on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe took to his facebook page as he lauded the determination shown by the villagers.
“Great determination shown by the people from village Gilmatdam, who carried a pregnant woman on a bamboo stretcher so that she can deliver at the hospital. It’s around 6 to 7 kms away from PHC. She delivered healthy twins,” the DC posted.
Officials of the National Health Mission (NHM) also termed the woman as a role model for institutional delivery.
