Women Commission & MCLU organized Seminar on Women in Sports.
The Office of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women in collaboration with the School of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong organized a one day Seminar on “Women in Sport” in Martin Luther Christian University campus on Wednesday.
The objective of the seminar was to change the mindsets, encourage participation and promote young girls in sports and physical education.
In her opening address, Candida Kharsyntiew, Member of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women said the seminar was organized as the commission felt the need to address women in sports.
Rebina Subba, (former member, Meghalaya State Commission for Women) spoke on Gender sensitization with special focus on women in sports.
The programme continued with a presentation of achievements, experiences and challenges from four districts including Ri Bhoi District represented by Margaret Pathaw, Ibahun Kurbah representing Eastern West District and Eva Waynie Marbaniang representing East Khasi Hills.
Later a group discussion was held , divided on the subthemes ; Women representation in sports facilitated by Dr Dahunlyne Shylla; Promoting young girls in physical education facilitated by Dr Marbabiang Syiemlieh and Gender equality in sports facilitated by Deidi Banmer Nongrum.
