Workshop on quality control analytics and Six Sigma methodology in lab medicine at AIIMS Guwahati
The Biochemistry Department of AIIMS Guwahati recently organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and workshop titled “Quality Control Analytics and Six Sigma Methodology in Lab Medicine.” Held on Saturday, the event attracted close to 100 participants from 15 institutes across India. The program aimed to enhance faculty and staff knowledge on advanced quality control techniques and Six Sigma methodologies, crucial for ensuring precision and reliability in diagnostic services, which in turn leads to better patient outcomes.
In his address, AIIMS Guwahati Executive Director, Prof. Ashok Puranik, underscored the significance of quality control training in reducing diagnostic errors and boosting productivity. He emphasized that such training is essential for faculty, testing personnel, and technical staff to ensure accurate diagnostics and thereby improve patient care. Prof. Puranik expressed hope that the insights gained from the CME would translate into practical improvements in healthcare services.
The event began with a welcome note from Prof. Subash Gupta, Head of the Biochemistry Department, and featured sessions by esteemed experts, including Dr. Teresa Biswas, Dr. Subhosmito Chakraborty, and Santosh Kumar Potharam. These sessions included interactive discussions and hands-on training with Six Sigma tools, aimed at enhancing laboratory processes, minimizing errors, and aligning with international quality standards.
The CME concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Ashikh Seethy, Assistant Professor in the Biochemistry Department. Faculty members played a pivotal role in organizing the event, exemplifying AIIMS Guwahati’s dedication to excellence in healthcare, education, and research within the Northeast region.
