World Hepatitis Day observed in Jowai
The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Jowai observed the World Hepatitis Day at Jowai District Jail today on the theme “Hepatitis can’t wait’
Dr. A Hinge, Medical Specialist, Jowai Civil Hospital Ialong informed that the day is observed every year to create awareness among the public and to take immediate treatment if infected else Hepatitis can turn into different types of disease. He elaborated on the five types of Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis A and E are spread by contaminated food and water, to prevent this one should eat and drink hygienic food and water. Also, wash your hands well after using the toilets. About 45% of people can be seriously affected like having liver failure.
While Hepatitis B, C and D are spread by coming in contact with infected blood like using the same syringe of those taking drugs and tattoos, also childbirth without medical support.
He also said, If the mother conceives when she has this disease in advance then the child get infected. A person infected with this sickness will begin to show symptoms after 3 to 4 months symptoms of fever, body pain etc. Later lack of hunger, stomach illness, vomiting and eyes turn yellowish. There are cases which do not have external symptoms. It is very dangerous because the germs affect the liver and later turn into liver cancer.
The office of the District Health and Health Officer also conducted Health screening and Medical checkup for the intimates.
