World population ticking nearly 8 billions
Along with the rest of the world, the office of the District Medical Health Officer, West Jaintia Hills District joined hand in reminding the people on the need of controlling population growth as the World population is ticking around the eight billion mark.
Observing the World Population Day, the office launched the World Population Fortnight programme at Woodland WK Hospital in Sabahmuswang on Monday.
Presiding over the programme DM&HO, West Jaintia Hills Dr K.C. Ajar stressed on the need of family planning.
DM & CHO, West Jaintia Hills Dr Helen J Uriah conveyed the message on the role of Family Planning in Family Welfare and Maternal Health and Socioeconomic development.
The types of contraceptive measures and their advantages was clearly explained as well as the facilities from which these services can be availed. Permanent Contraception is only available at the 3 hospitals in the district.
Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Peter Daniel Khariong of Woodland WK emphasized on having a family plan such that each family will be socially and economically able to raise their kids in a best possible manner.
Similarly, World Population Day was also observed at Dr Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai.
