World Pulses Day observed in Namdong

The office of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaintia Hills celebrated the World Pulses Day”  with theme “Atmanirbhar Bharat-Harnessing potential pulses for import substitution” on the 10^th February, 2022 at Namdong village, where NICRA project is being implemented.

In this programme the welcome speech was delivered by Firstborn Sutnga,Senior Research Fellow(SRF) NICRA Project, KVK Jaintia Hills. He welcomed the farmers and the officials to the programme. He also highlights the concepts of the programme and also about pulses.

R. Suchiang, Subject Matter Specialist (AH & Vety), KVK Jaintia Hills  delivered a speech on the importance of millets which are known to be a repository of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Cheku Aman Pariat, Senior Research Fellow(SRF), ARYA Project, KVK Jaintia Hills delivered a lecture on Pulses, types of pulses and its importance to our diet.

As part of the programme a demonstration by Firstborn Sutnga,Senior Research Fellow(SRF) NICRA Project, KVK Jaintia Hills on “line sowing of seeds was also held with farmers actively participating hands on seed sowing.

Seeds were also distributed to the farmers. Altogether 49 participants attended the programme which includes Farmers and Farm women besides the officials of the organizing departments.
