Wrestling Association of Meghalaya appoints Isaiah Kharmawphlang as interim president
The Wrestling Association of Meghalaya (WAM) has accepted the resignation of its president John F Kharshiing and appointed Isaiah Kharmawphlang as interim president.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the executive committee of WAM held on October 21.
“The executive committee accepted the resignation of John F Kharshiing, and unanimously proposed the name of Isaiah Kharmawphlang, as Interim President, until ratified by the General Body Meeting,” WAM general secretary Sunny Dkhar said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said during the meeting, the president had informed that after being allotted the bid to Host the 39th National Games the Executive Council MSOA had earlier authorised EC members to handhold re-activation of defunct State Sports Associations including formation of State Sports Associations which were non active and also non existent and that this process is ongoing as the state has to host 36 sports disciplines.
In this context he further explained that during the North East Games, initially it was agreed to host only 16 sports however on the request from the other North East States Wrestling and Weightlifting was included and where Wrestling Association of Meghalaya was constituted and registered with Members from districts.
Similarly, a hand holding process was initiated for Weightlifting as the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association was under suspension by the Indian Weightlifting Federation for its various actions.
Inview of the successful conduct of the Wrestling Sports during the 2n edition of the North East Games 2022 where our Meghalaya wrestlers also won 6 Bronze Medals through the effective coordination by the emergence of effective Wrestling office bearers who have gained experiernce and confidence in conduct of the Wrestling sports.
Kharshiing also informed that the WAM has also received Provisional Affiliation from the Meghalaya State Olympic Association and that he has been informed by the I0A that the affiliation process with the Wrestling Federation of India will be shortly finalised once a election of the new office bearers of WFl is completed next month.
Kharshiing, appealed to the members to carry on the voluntary work as his mission was to handhold the constitution of the Wrestling Association of Meghalaya and that now it was time for others to move forward as he has decided to resign maintaining the spirit of one man one post and to continue to help with the activation of other State Sports Associations
Dkhar said on the request of the house Kharshiing agreed to support the Wrestling Association of Meghalaya only in an advisory capacity.
He informed that it was also resolved that copy of this important resolution would be communicated on the change of President would be sent to MSOA and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt of Meghalaya.
Further, Dkhar informed that the Executive Committee has decided to seek financial grant in aid for hosting the State Wrestling Championship during December 14th and 15th 2023. The wrestling competition will be a Freestyle Competition. The last date for Registration will be on or before 6h December 2023.
All the Members of the Executive Committee were inducted as Organising Committee with Isaia Kharmawphlang, as Chairman and C Marngar, as Organising Secretary for the State Championship. Isaia Kharmawphlang and Raldin Shabong, were authorised to also represent the WAM in the Meghalaya Games as competition Manager and Deputy Competition Manager and to also be representatives to the MSOA.
