Young talent takes center stage at 2nd District Singing Competition in Jowai
The 2nd District Level Inter-School Singing Competition, organized by Elev8 Tribes and DSEO, West Jaintia Hills, was held on September 28 at the District Library, Mynthong, Jowai. Over 200 students from 17 schools participated, showcasing their musical talents.
Frederick Roy Kharkongor, Principal Secretary of Arts & Culture, was the Chief Guest. Elev8 Tribes’ president, L. Dauni Laloo, thanked the community, teachers, and parents for supporting the event. A special performance of Reach For The Stars, featuring last year’s winners and artist Lily Sawian, captivated the audience.
In the Solo Senior Category, the first prize went to Baiamonlang Lakiang from Jowai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School. The second prize was awarded to Emily L.G. Darnei from Jaintia Higher Secondary School, Jowai, and the third prize went to Wadakitimi Suiam from Shangpung Presbyterian Higher Secondary School.
In the Solo Junior Category, the first prize was won by Donnean A. Laloo from Jowai Public School. Adriana Pariat from Adventist Higher Secondary School, Khliehtyrshi, took second place, while Ferick Star Suting from St. Michael & All Angels’ Secondary School, Jowai, secured third.
In the Choir Category, Jaintia Higher Secondary School, Jowai, took the top spot, followed by Che’s Stars Higher Secondary School, Jowai, in second place, and Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai, in third.
In the Indigenous Group/Band Category, Jowai Public School won first prize, with Shangpung Presbyterian Higher Secondary School taking second.
The event highlighted the region’s cultural heritage and the importance of nurturing young talent.
