Youth arrested in Guwahati for impersonating CBI officer and extortion money
A 26-year-old youth was arrested by the Guwahati City Police for impersonating him a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer from Jalukbari area of the city on Sunday night.
The accused has been identified as Fayajul Hazarika alias Denish (26), son of Fakaruddin, a resident of Kobasuba under Sipajhar police station in Darang district. The youth identified himself as CBI officer Denish Hazarika.
A criminal case has been registered vide Jalukbari police station case number 402/24 under section 61 (2)/319 (2)/318(4)/308(2) BNS.
Later one of his accomplices identified as Gautam Saikia alias Ayan, son of Bhuban Saikia, a resident of Pathaliban Panitola under Moran police station in Dibrugarh district was also arrested as the second accused in connection with the case.
Gautam Saikia had allowed the use of his vehicle registration number AS01RC3150 (Alto) which was also seized.
“Yesterday, at about 10.30 pm, a team from Jalukbari Outpost apprehended one person who impersonated as CBI officer using a police uniform, I cards, badges, toy pistols etc. During the search of his room at Sixmile, one pair of police uniforms, 2 toy pistols and I card of CBI, badges were recovered,” police said.
“The accused impersonated himself for extortion and had also collected money from the gullible people and assured them of jobs. In one such incident, he took money from one Afzal Hussain of Garigaon and assured him to give job to his son. The accused had also offered to provide jobs to others also,” they said.
The accused is a habitual thug who identifies himself in many bogus forms and has operated similarly in the entire city for the last seven months.
Recently he took a rented room at Six Mile where he had identified himself as Assam Police personnel.
