Youth meets watery grave in River Myntdu

A youth in his early thirties drowned in Mutong Syntu Ksiar’s portion of the River Myntdu, West Jaintia Hills District on Sunday morning.

Police said at around 11.30 am they were informed of a drowning case in Myntdu River and immediately rushed to the spot to cause an enquiry.

Police said the victim was identified as Dawansame Najiar, 33 yrs son of K. Firstborn Laloo R/o Loompyrdi, Iongpiah Jowai.

Police said the assistance of the Special Rescue Team, FES Shillong was called for and they was able to fish out the body at around 3:30 pm.

Necessary legal formalities have been observed at the place of occurence and the body was shifted to Civil Hospital for postmortem.

During the enquiry, police said no foul play was suspected and the body was handed over to the family members for the last rites and post mortem was officially exempted.
