Youths pedalling for creating World Records reached West Jaintia Hills
On a noble mission of creating awareness on the immediate need of preserving the environment, two youths pedaled 5500 kilometers all the way from South India and reached West Jaintia Hills District on Saturday.
These two youths are members of the prestigious Rotaract Club of Shishu Mandir, Bangalore and they are Dhanush M from Kadugodi and Hemanth Y.B from Yadagondanahalli.
Both of them are rock climbers but they are pedalling all the way to enter the Guinness Book of World Record by cycling 24000+Kms in 200 days covering 29 states & 3 Union Territories.
This will be the longest journey by bicycle in a single country.
The two youths are spreading the message of fighting global warming and also increasing the literacy rate of the country.
“We try and meet the locals and schools authority on our journey and educate them about Global warming which is Rotary’s newest area of focus: Protecting the Environment and also create awareness on literacy (Basic Literacy, schooling and Adult Literacy),” Dhanush told reporters on Saturday in Orchid Inn, Thadlaskein Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills District.
He said the event is sponsored by Rotary Bangalore Whitefield Central (Dist.3190) in association with the International Fellowship of Cycling Rotarians (Dist.3190), Shishu Mandir Education Center, Maithri Aqautech Pvt Ltd, and Dr. Durga Prasad Reddy (Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Bangalore).
The ride was flagged off on 11th July, 2021 from Vidhan Soudha by District Governor 3190 Rtn Fazal Mahmood.
Dhanush said that first they travel from Bangalore, then they enter Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odhisa.
The duo has complete to travel 8 states and now they are in Meghalaya.
“We have Cover 5500 Km and we got good response and met good people and experience new thing in our journey,” Dhanush.
He also urged citizens and especially the youth to use bicycles for short distances for 3-4 km a day to save the environment.
When they reach Thadlaskein, the duo was received by president Rotary Club Jowai SK Lato accompanied by Rotract Club of Jowai and Jaintia Bicycle Forum which they shared their experience travelling to Meghalaya.
Tomorrow the duo will be heading for Assam. From Assam they will travel to Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim besides others state in the Northern part of the country.
