Zero Tolerance Policy against illegal toll/check gate or forcible collection of money: Meghalaya Govt
The District Magistrate East Khasi Hills District has strongly prohibited the operation of unauthorised Check Gate/Toll Gate and any form of forcible collection along the National Highways, State Highways and Major District Roads of East Khasi Hills.
In an official press communique, the District Magistrate issued the prohibition to prevent leakage of public revenue due to the illegal check gate/toll gate.
“This Office has received several Complaints, Reports and Grievances against the operation of unauthorised Toll Gates along National Highways. State Highways and Major District Roads of East Khasi Hills,” the District Magistrate informed.
The press communique asserted that the Government of Meghalaya has taken a firm stand and adopted a “Zero Tolerance” Policy towards the existence of any illegal Toll/Check gate or forcible collection from traffic plying along the National Highways, State Highways and Major District Roads of East Khasi Hills.
The District Magistrate observed the installation of these illegal Toll/Check gate and barriers for forcible collection obstructs the seamless traffic flow causing inconvenience to road users and also hazardous from a safety point of view and may attract road accidents.
Any violation thereof shall be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions.
