Empowering talents, enriching communities: The MCSWA fashion extravaganza
In a resplendent display of talent and creativity, the Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) orchestrated a momentous event to felicitated the 30 exceptional individuals who recently completed a 3-month training program at the District Library in Jowai on Friday. The gathering not only celebrated their newfound skills but also marked a pivotal moment in nurturing entrepreneurship and fostering a vibrant fashion culture within the region.
The highlight of the event was a dazzling Fashion Show and Exhibition, where the trainees showcased their flair for fashion, with the Bridal Bliss Spectacular stealing the spotlight. Hailing from various corners of the Jaintia Hills, these budding entrepreneurs illuminated the local fashion scene, particularly in the realm of bridal attire, catapulting Jowai into the league of renowned fashion hubs.
Director MCSWA, Dr. JN Shullai, in her poignant keynote address, emphasized that the event transcended the realm of fashion; it served as a dynamic platform for aspiring designers to unleash their creativity and vision. It epitomized a harmonious collaboration among governmental bodies, private enterprises and grassroots organizations, united in their mission to empower individuals and fortify the community fabric. Each garment on display was a testament to perseverance and ingenuity, weaving together threads of cultural heritage with contemporary flair.
Lambormi Suchen, Skills Development Officer, West Jaintia Hills informed that under the skill development initiatives across 23 sectors, these efforts have empowered over 700 candidates and facilitated gainful employment for more than 400 youths in West Jaintia Hills. As a part of Meghalaya State Skills Development Society Programme, aspiring entrepreneurs receive comprehensive training, assessment and startup tools, enabling them to embark on their entrepreneurial journey with confidence. Suchen urged aspiring youths, particularly dropouts or graduates, to seize this transformative opportunity and enrol in the free courses. He added, for this fiscal year, the Meghalaya Skills Development target to train over 3000 interested candidates were encouraged to promptly register and embark on their path to success.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, M B Tongper underscored the imperative of leveraging digital platforms to showcase their creations and advocated for sustainable practices by harnessing locally sourced, eco-friendly materials. He implored the youth to harness the power of skill development programs offered by various institutions to combat unemployment effectively and contribute meaningfully to society.
In addition to the dazzling Fashion Show, attendees were treated to a mesmerizing performance under the Meghalaya Grassroot Music Project and interactive session on HIV/AIDS by Meghalaya AIDS Control Society.
